WORLD PRIDE NYC STONEWALL50

Join us for the first WorldPride in the United States honoring the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, NYC Pride will simultaneously host WorldPride during its 2019 season. It’s the first WorldPride hosted on United States soil, and the second North American WorldPride in the event’s nearly 20 year history.

The sixth edition of WorldPride will welcome millions of domestic and international LGTBQI+ guests to New York City. Attendees will encounter a once-in-a-lifetime experience to honor and celebrate the Pride movement in the same location where the modern movement began in 1969.

Accordingly, NYC Pride’s 2019 season is dually branded Stonewall50 and WorldPride 2019. NYC Pride is producing WorldPride’s official events, including never-before-seen activities alongside special editions of iconic events such as the March, Rally and Pride Island. Full details of the 2019 events will be released in late 2018.

Stonewall50 / WorldPride 2019’s theme is “Millions of Moments of Pride,” representing the invaluable and countless experiences every person encounters during annual celebrations and commemorations around the world, The Pride experience is as unique as its participants, because it is unique to each participant.

First Prides. First loves. Newfound energy. Rekindled friendships. Smiles. Laughs. Tears. Hope. Togetherness.

Collectively, the community leaves the Pride experience feeling energized and empowered to take on life knowing no one is alone. Only time will tell what awaits each WorldPride visitor during Stonewall50, but it is certain there will be millions of moments they never forget.

WorldPride is a licensed event granted by InterPride, an international membership organization of Pride organizers. In October 2016, NYC Pride representatives delivered and won the bid to host the WorldPride 2019 in conjunction with the Stonewall50 commemoration year and theme.

NYC Pride is working closely with state and city officials to produce welcoming events at an unprecedented scale during the 2019 season. Through grants and outreach, the organization is working closely with community groups to produce new events and scale their existing events to exceed visitors’ expectations during the 2019 season. In 2018, NYC Pride is providing over $150,000 to local organizations, a number intended to increase during 2019.

What is WorldPride?

WorldPride is a culturally-diverse expression of the quest for equality and liberty of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people worldwide. It exists to rally the LGBTI communities on a global level, thereby promoting our universal quest for freedom and human rights. (source: InterPride WorldPride committee)

Dallas Southern Pride

"INFINITE SHADES: Black, Bold ,& beautiful!"

When it comes to celebrating the best of who and what we are as Black LGBTQ people, Dallas Southern Pride gets it right each and every time. Join us September 27 - October 1, 2018 as we host the 21st Annual Black Gay Pride Weekend, one of Dallas's premiere weekends which also happens concurrently with the opening of the Texas State Fair and the State Fair Classic (Grambling vs. Prairie View A&M).

We have a host of events and activities happening throughout this weekend in  Dallas that are set up in true Lone Star Style, including the Ball/House and Pageant Communities Conference. Early in the year we celebrate National Pride Month and the recognition of Juneteenth, a special day in Black history that started in Texas.

The Annual Black Gay Pride Weekend is designed to promote an atmosphere of positive interaction and celebrate the intersectionality of our Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, and Queer (LGBTQ) identity and our Black identity as individuals who create a collective community. Since 2017, we've gotten a new President and a host of other things have happened in our country and around the world that has the ability to make us feel as if we are invisible or irrelevant, however Dallas Black Gay Pride 2018 sets the tone to bring the Black, the Bold, and the Beautiful together to celebrate who and what we are. There will also be organizations present which will be addressing health, education, economic and social issues affecting local Black LGBTQ communities. Dallas Southern Pride maintains its place in history as the only local Black Pride organization in this area that provides signature events aimed at the Black LGBTQ community.

In 2017, more than 15,000+ participants converged on Dallas for the city’s signature Black Gay Pride circuit party of the season. Brothers, sisters, and transgender individuals came from all over the United States and other parts of the world to celebrate. We had Grammy award-winning artist Remy Ma performing last year and with this being our 21st year, we have much to celebrate and many things to plan. You can expect a full four-day festive weekend. While historically prides have been predominately gay male events, Dallas Southern Pride continues to build alliances and partnerships that are inclusive of both women and transgender organizations to ensure the needs of all communities are addressed with workshops on relationships, health, wellness and financial planning.  We also honor and acknowledge our allies, those who stand in the gap for us in spaces and conversations where we are not able to be present. Our events continue to hold a distinguished history in our community, and continue to be a part of our ongoing commitment to educate and empower women and Transgender individuals of color.

Be sure to bookmark our page and follow us on FacebookTwitter and Instagram to stay connected with the events for both brothers and sisters. We are sure that if you attend this year's Black Gay Pride Weekend, you'll meet new friends, engage in a dialogue or conversation that will lift you higher and encourage your heart. As members of our Beloved Community get older, partying remains a focus, but only once or twice a year and we hope you'll make this your party and soul-filling weekend. Remember, all we have is one another and we walk Black, Bold, and Beautifully into this everyday.

Black Women Yoga Retreat May 20-May29,2018

DESCRIPTION

Black Women Yoga Retreats is the first international yoga retreat dedicated to black women who are passionate about their love of yoga. It is a space where black women can grow, practice and learn yoga and meditation in a community environment and safe space. It is a space located outside of the United States, in the middle of nature, so that Black women may be able to connect with their minds, bodies and spirits through their yoga and meditation practices. For many around the world, Yoga is an ancient healing practice that connects us with mind, body and spirit. Yoga is a calling that goes beyond our physical; when we answer, we wake up to our higher selves. Black Women’s Yoga Retreats will provide a safe space for cooperative healing of our bodies, minds, and spirits through the revolutionary practice of self enlightenment. Black Women Yoga Retreats, WOCHR is a space for all black women who practice, whether this is the beginning of your journey or you have been practicing for years. Let us guide you to your inner light.

Black Women Yoga Retreats Include:

Activites

De-Colonizing Yoga: Daily morning, afternoon, and evening yoga classes (3 daily yoga classes) Our classes are a variety of Hatha, Kemetic, Ashtanga, Yin, Vinyasa flows and more.

Guided Meditations & Pranayama (breathing techniques): With a group of like minded and melanated yoginis, you will explore self enlightenment, freedom and inner peace. Our meditations are there to guide you to a higher level of consciousness that promotes a spirit filled with vitality. We want you to vibrate higher into a space of peacefulness that is motivated by the calmness of the true treasure of yoga: pranayama. By entering into a daily meditative practice, we hope to guide each other away from the myopic shackles of a modern racist society and into the peacefulness of spiritual knowledge.

Exploring the Yamas and Niyamas: When we connect with yoga we connect with our higher selves. Yoga is a practice that can not only heal our body's but our minds and spirits. The Yamas and Niyamas of yoga are ways that we interact with our selves and our world. In this workshop yoginis will break down different definitions and keys to each Yama and Niyama to create healthier lives on and off the mat.

Inversions Workshop: In this workshop the women will learn techniques and correct alignments to gain the confidence for their inversion practice.

Bhakti Workshop: Infuse asana, devotional chanting, and meditation as we explore and open the heart chakra.

Deepen your connection to the practice and spirit of life through the heart-opening qualities of Bhakti with the sensuality and flow of gentle back bends. Class will begin with pranayama and organic movement to clear the energy and invoke a sense of collectivity in the space. The women will join together in a circle, hand in hand, to begin the Bhakti chant ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ which translates to “The Jewel Is Within the Lotus.”

The mantra will be recited 'call-and-chant style,' so that the group may feel comfortable with the repetition during the song portion.

Each and every one of us, as sistars, has a higher purpose. Through connection to one another on the journey of cultivating more love and light, we begin to send a higher vibration out into the universe through song. The ultimate goal is to immerse ourselves in the mantra, and tap into the healing power of connection through our beating hearts. There will be a group share to follow the chanting, and the women are encouraged to bring their journals to jot down any thoughts that came about during the song portion. After sharing, the women will be led through a series of asanas to open the heart chakra. There will be a guided meditation to integrate the energies and close the communion.

Kemetic Yoga Wellness: (Warrior Wombyn)

Experience the yoga that is made for the strength and health of African warrior women. A warrior woman is a healthy woman in mind, body and spirit and she possesses the power to bring healing and manifest dreams in herself and across the planet. The African woman is endowed with the insight, higher consciousness and energy of her ancestors that will enrich the world with the compassion, love and respect that nature intended. This workshop intends to open the minds, hearts and spirits of black women to the connection they have with the wisdom and experiences of their ancient African history, culture and people. Practicing yoga from a traditional and holistic African perspective offers black women the space to identify with a greatness in their own image and to reflect that power out for transforming their lives and the wellness of the people around them.

This workshop is a time and place for the the black woman to learn and share what hurts and what heals them. Open your heart to share and listen to the issues that are concerning our health on personal or mass levels. Explore meanings of the symbols, deities and natural forces that put the black woman at the centerpoint of this healing art. Learn techniques in breathing, meditation, and postures unique to ancient Africa that are designed to heal and transform the spirit of African women. Experience how a yoga practice rooted in your own history, culture and sciences encourages self-healing and well-being and offers an easier path to self-knowledge and higher consciousness.

Sauna Sessions: Though western society teaches us that sweating is a sign of social weakness and lack of hygiene, it is a very essential part of our health. Here at BWYR we readily encourage you sweat out your “kitchen” in order to rid the body of the toxins that lie in our shampoos, makeup, food and air. Our skin is our largest and most essential organ. Without it, we would have no home to live in and no place to experience the wonders of the universe. Sweating is a testament to the wonders of our skin. It has been proven to increase circulation to our organs as well as clear our airways for proper ventilation. This is why at BWYR we have incorporated the sauna into our yoga experience. Saunas can help open and stimulate our endocrine system after it has been battered though the environmental degradations so common the west. This means that saunas can be an essential part of a healthy life by promoting an active metabolism and an energetic sex life. They can help us stay connected with our internal and spiritual well being through our skin.

All meals made with quality and organic ingredients, made with love.

Our ultimate goal is to nurture a bond between you and your yoga practice that can be relied on to keep you healthy, grounded, and enlightened no matter where you are.

As we abstain from animal by products in the BWYR kitchen, we also abstain from alcohol throughout the retreat. This abstinence will be in effect whether guests are in the retreat lodge, or are enjoying some well needed personal time. Our goal for the alcohol cleanse, is to keep the vibrations high. This is a space dedicated to assisting black women on their yoga journeys. We are each responsible for ourselves. We are responsible for showing up each day. In personal responsibility it is your duty to make sure you use this space to go within while building community with your sistars. It is in the spirit of sisterhood that all guests will participate in a Silent Day. Silent Day requires tuning into our own inner voices. On this day, classes will be held with your instructors, throughout the day, all participants and instructors must be silent. We will revere in the power of silent meditation and its ability to bring gratitude to our lives.

Unlike our Women of Color Healing Retreat, BWYR is an intensive yoga retreat, it is all about developing a relationship with one’s yoga and meditation practice. Our yoga classes incorporate spirituality, anatomy, pranayama, and the traditional practices of yoga for a unique and authentic experience. Classes are taught in English and Sanskrit. Our yoga retreats are attended by those who have never tried yoga and meditation, and by those who wish to further their experience. This is a time to disconnect so that we may reconnect with our highest selves. We are elated to have you join us in the replenishing jungles of Costa Rica.

Surf or Snorkel : Take a two-hour surf class for beginners with an expert surf teacher here in Costa Rica or you can choose to go snorkeling in the beautiful Caribbean sea with an expert or you can choose to take swimming lessons. Experience in swimming is not required for snorkeling or swim lessons. There are many people who don't know how to swim or afraid of water simply because they have never been taught. This will be a space where women of color can be free in water collectively without fear of judgement. *check to see if swimming lessons are available*

Cacao Bathing at the Waterfall: The women will also have sacred cacao bathing by the waterfall where the women will bathe in cacao (cacao is chocolate before chocolate is processed). Cacao is healing , but because it's processed in the west it's used for the complete opposite of its purpose. This healing and meditative experience brings us back to ourselves and to nature.

Hike and Beach: We will venture off on a beautiful hike surrounding the jungle and beach. Women circles and sunset meditation will also take place on the beach.

omen's Circle: The women will journal, hold discussions and cultivate a safe space to heal and grow.

Sacred Cleansing with a Bri Bri Shaman: We are known by many names: the Afrikan, Kemet, and the Moors. We share a diverse heritage and a unique cultural history. Black people were the first people; the ancestors that share our melanin created the first civilizations. In the Central American tropical paradise of Costa Rica, the Bri Bri people are one of the local melanated indigenous peoples. There are about 8 different indigenous or Indian tribes in the country. Bri Bris have managed to preserve almost all of their incredible traditions, including their way of life and respect for ancestral knowledge. Sacred lands are revered within Costa Rica’s protected borders, and only people of the Bri Bri tribe are allowed to inhabit those clandestine areas. WOCHR participants will have the privilege of visiting the cosmic house of the Bri Bri tribe to experience sacred cleansing with a Bri Bri shaman.

Bon Fire: Play, Stretch, Dance, Connect with Mother Earth!

*We recommend bringing $350 or more for spending , this excludes additional activities *

Womens Workshops and Circles

Women's workshops/ Women's Circle: There will be women’s workshops and circles throughout the retreat. The following list is a sample of some of those workshops/circles:

Self Love Workshop:ealing through self love and self care.

Exploring Colorism: The women of color will form a circle of support as we explore the different dynamics of colorism. Healing different shades of brown.

Tap Into the Ancient Power of Crystals: Gemshave been around since the beginning of time, so by connecting to these stones we connect to our ancestors. In this workshop, you'll learn the ancient practice of tapping into the energy of gemstones, crystals, rocks, and minerals. We will discuss the importance of crystals in ancient Egypt and their continued usage in modern times. We'll provide an overview of common stones and their special properties. More specifically, we'll discuss the role of crystals in raising spiritual and emotional well being through explanation of the chakra energy system. Finally, we'll discuss how to use and care for crystals in your home and everyday life.

Race Gender & Politics: In this workshop, the women will examine the roles of Black women in the United States: our history, our stories of resistance, and how we have come to today’s toxic political climate. The women will look at how the history of the United States has shaped the intersections of race and gender, and how it impacts the lived experiences of Black women today. Participants will also discuss the ways that our past affects the present, and how we can become more conscious of this cycle. As with all of our workshops, this workshop is also open to women who do not reside in the states.

Healing Brown Bodies: In this workshop the women discuss the way they view their bodies and the way society has affected the way they view themselves.

Sankofa Workshop:
Sankofa is an important symbolic bird in West Africa. It translates as “go back and get it” (san-to return; ko-to go; fa-to fetch, to seek and take) It represents the need to reflect on our past to build a successful future.

In this workshop we will learn about our African legacies, our histories of resistance, and how we use this knowledge to envision a future for ourselves as black women. We will learn about resilient spiritual traditions and Orisha practice in the diaspora. We will also learn how black artists and activists today are creating works of Afrofuturism, envisioning black futures that stem from the experience of the African Diaspora.

We will each build our own Sankofa bird and share our reflections with each other.

WOCHR is a vegan retreat, all meals are cooked with quality ingredients. Animal by products are not allowed within the retreat space , no exceptions. As we abstain from animal by products in the WOCHR kitchen, we also abstain from alcohol throughout the retreat. This abstinence will be in effect whether guests are in the retreat lodge, or are enjoying some well needed personal time. Our goal for the alcohol cleanse, is to keep the vibrations high. This is a space dedicated to assisting black women on their spiritual/healing journey. We are each responsible for ourselves. We are responsible for showing up each day. In personal responsibility it is your duty to make sure you use this space to go within while building community with your sistars. This is a time to disconnect so that we may reconnect with our highest selves. We are responsible for our own wellness and healing, WOCHR provides tools that can be used to assist in self love and healing but ultimately, A healer does not heal you, a healer holds space for you to awaken your inner healer so that you may heal yourself. We are elated to have you join us in the replenishing jungles of Costa Rica.
